11 Sep Get To Know The Team – Who Is Behind Verve?
Take ten minutes to get to know our team!
This time with Jordan Campbell, Verve’s Managing Director
What’s your story?
‘I’m from Scotland but have been brought up in various countries around the world, before coming to China over 12 years ago. I founded and run Verve, one of greater China’s most Exciting Event, Exhibition Staffing and Activation Agencies.’
How many languages do you speak?
‘I love languages as they open up the door to so many cultures. I’ve been fortunate enough to study and learn five languages at a pretty advanced level – Russian, Chinese, Spanish & French. My English isn’t too bad!’
What’s your favourite city in China and why?
‘Shanghai – by far. Not only is it a natural hub for business and commerce, but its rapid development, coupled with the international outlook that oozes here makes it a perfect centre for growing brands and experiences.’
What’s your favourite place on Earth, and why?
‘This is a tough one, so I will go for a tie between St Andrews in Scotland, and the Greek Islands. Having been brought up in Greece as a wee boy, I simply loved the food, culture and the people there. Heavenly. Studying at the University of St Andrews was an amazing experience as well, which brings me pangs of nostalgia for those good old days!’
What would you say is unique about you?
‘Having been exposed to many cultures, countries, markets and business practices, I would say that perhaps being adaptable and flexible in my approach to problems is unique. In business you have to be somewhat chameleonic, as well as being confident and certain that what you are doing is the right thing. It is this adaptability and focus that is so crucial to entrepreneurs.’
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
‘Never wait for things to happen. Make them happen for yourself.’
What excites you the most about your industry?
‘The dynamism. We are always looking for new and exciting ways to promote brands, creating experiences for guests at events and promotions and truly getting to the core of what a company and event represents. The DNA of every company is so important, and our job is to make that DNA shine through at every experiential activity.’
What’s your proudest moment at Verve International?
‘Every day I reflect on our achievements and what we are doing with so much pride. We have engaged so many people at our events and activations, truly making their days all the more fun and interesting. This is why we do what we do. I would say that winning awards and acclaim for our work is a source of pride, and sort of validates our efforts!’
What’s your favourite part about your job role at Verve International?
‘Managing a great team, hands down. Being able to use my experience to help grow and mentor others, and to see my team blossom and be able to work independently, without me having to check in all the time. This is every CEO’s dream, as well as the definition of success – to be able to take a step back and empower your team to run the company’s day to day activity.’
